Heading for Texas

I was always quite good at geography, or at least I thought so.  I can show you the location of any country on the map and tell you what the capital of that country is.  However, sometimes I get things a little mixed up when it comes to US geography.  Once upon a time, I thought that the entire state of Virginia was east of Ohio--it was obvious, wasn't it?  But a map will show you that the western tip of Virginia is west of Cleveland, Ohio.  Until recently, I thought Colorado and New Mexico were west of Texas.  Actually, El Paso is west of Denver and directly south of Albuquerque.  Traveling is a learning experience.  I recommend it.

The drive down I25 to El Paso was enjoyable.  We started in the high desert and made our way down to the Rio Grande valley.  The closer to the river we got, the greener the landscape became.  Not a lot of cities down that way, but interesting names (Truth or Consequences--must be embarrassing to realize that you live in a town named after a radio show).

I25 became I10 and we passed a number of large pacan and dairy farms.  I hadn't expected as much agriculture in that area.

Made our way to the RV park at Fort Bliss.  $13.00 a night.  A perk for having spent all those years in the Army.

Katie took the photo through the windshield as we crossed into Texas.
