The Barryville Pumpkin Fest

We had intended to go to the 102nd annual edition of the Greatest Free Show on Earth this year, not having been there in quite a few years (at least 10), but I forgot about that 3rd Wednesday of the month crap.  I thought October 15 was a little early for it to start, that it would start on the 22nd.  Wrong.  Actually, October 15 is the ealiest it can start.  Due to my oversight, I won't be able to make it this year.

But I was able to attend the 6th Annual Barryville Pumpkin Fest yesterday.  It's held on the grounds of The Spring House, an old resort hotel on the Delaware River, that is still operated as a B&B  - nice place.  Each year they co-raise funds for a local group in need.  This year the recipient was the Barryville Methodist Church Flood Fund.  They're still recovering from the flood 2 years ago.

The fest is no where near as big as the one in Circleville, doesn't draw those large crowds of 100,000+ per day, doesn't have a parade (let alone 7), lasts only one day, and the only ride is a hayride.  But it was fun.

There was live music provided by Cooper Boone, Will KnoxBobby KyleBashiri Johnson & Jah Stix .

And there were prizes for pumpkin decorating and carving.

The big pumpkin wasn't real like the one in Circleville, but it was cute.

Some people chose to cruise by on the river.

And others decided to sample the wares.

Although we didn't spend the entire day there, those who did topped off the day with a Pig Roast, Karaoke, Fireworks and a Bonfire.  The weather was idyllic with clear blue skies and temperatures in the 70s.

We later stopped along the river about 7 miles north of Barryville and took photos of the foliage reflecting off the river.  It should be at peak in another week or two.

and a strange looking tree.
