Ohio State v. Michigan

Playing at the Horseshoe (or it used to be). Ohio State is looking for its 5th straight win against the Maize and Blue.  27 degrees and windy at game time.  Was it 4 years ago that game time temperature was approaching 70?

First half:
Noon:  Ohio State took the kickoff from Michigan and, after an initial first down, had a pass intercepted by Michigan.  Luckily, little Blue couldn't do a thing with--even missed the field goal.
12:22  Marcus Freeman recovers fumble OSU punt.  Odoms should have not called for that fair catch.
12:25 Pryor sacked and OSU punts
12:30 Michigan goes 3 and out--not the most exciting game
12:34 Ohio State goes 3 and out
12:35 Michigan uses 2
12:36 Michigan incomplete
12:37 Michigan sacked, loss of 10
12:38 Michigan punt
12:38 Beanie Wells 59 yard touchdown run.  Longest play from scrimmage this year for OSU.  PAT is good
12:40 Michigan takes the ball on their own 28 and are immediately penalized 5 yards
12:42 Another 3 and out
12:45 Ohio State gets its second first down of the game with 45 seconds left in the first quarter
12:46 End of first quarter-Michigan has no yards gained and no first downs
12:51 Ohio State gets another first down
12:52 Wells loses a yard
12:53 Pryor to Hartline for 53 yard TD.  PAT good.  Pryor's 11 TD pass of the season
12:58 Michigan goes 3 and out again
The ABC trivia question:  What band was the first to do Script Ohio?  Michigan in 1932.
1:08 Ohio States goes for it on 4th and 2 and gives up the ball.  I love it when they go on 4th
1:14 Michigan goes for it on 4th and 1 and picks up a first down
1:16 Brandon Myer to the 1 yard line (good reason to go for it on 4th and short)
  1st down:  Loss of one
  2nd down: Loss of five
  3rd down:  Gain of five
1:20 4th down:  TD through sheer perseverance by Minor. PAT good.
1:24 Ohio State takes over on the 30
1:26 Pryor sacked bringing up 4th and 13
Sloppy, sloppy first half by both sides.  It doesn't appear that Tressel prepared his team mentally.  Only big plays keep them ahead.
1:30 Michigan trying to score before the half with14 seconds left.  They take a delay of game penalty and then punt the ball. The Michigan coaches obviously have little faith in the offense and have decided to play for a loss.  Michigan just gave up the momentum.
1:33 OSU has first down on 1 and ends the half there
The OSU-Michigan rivalry has produced a number of exciting moments--this is not one of those games.

Mount Union, another of my favorite teams, is currently leading Randolph-Macon 42-0

Second half:
1:55 Michigan takes the second half kickoff
1:57 Michigan gets a first down
1:58 Another Michigan first down
2:00 Michigan punts --OSU takes over at the 9
2:01 Beanie goes 42 yards!
2:02 Daniel Herron goes 49 yards for a TD.  PAT good.
2:08 Roughing the kicker by OSU-stupid mistake
2:10 Pass to Matthews looked good, thankfully it wasn't caught
2:12 Sheridan underthrew what would have been a momentous touchdown pass
2:17 OSU punts again--need to score and cover the spread
2:21 Michigan got a couple of quick first downs and is working the no huddle, but eventually punts
2:25 81 yard punt return by Ray Small  OSU 1st and goal
2:26 Touchdown Brian Robiskie.  PAT  good

First round of Division III playoffs started this weekend.  Mount Union defeated Randolph-Macon 56-0

2:32 Did you see that scrambling and duck pass from Pryor?  He's too good!
2:33 Herron to the 2--end of 3rd quarter
2:40 Herron gets a touchdown from 2 yards out.  PAT good.  35-7
2:46 Todd Boeckman comes in and tosses a touchdown pass to Hartline.  That's great! PAT good. 42-7
Boeckman was MVP of the team last year and was chosen Captain of the 2008 team.  He started badly and was replaced by Pryor.  Like the great team player and captain he is, he helped Pryor achieve success and got a just reward at the end of the Michigan game.  Good stuff.
2:51 Laurenaitis gets into a little scuffle
2:52 Michigan punts
2:56 Boeckman hits Lobitskie for 46 yards
3:00 OSU punts to the Michigan 2
3:03 Damn near a safety--6:40 left
3:04 Michigan punts again
3:06 Third string quarterback enters the game
The seniors on Michigan have never beaten Ohio State.  The Ohio State seniors have never been beaten by Michigan.
3:12 Ohio State is controlling the ball and killing the clock.
3:13 Ohio State has won 5 in a row

Michigan appears to have a long way to go to make it back among the elite, but don't lose sight of the fact that they are Michigan (the name is a recruiting tool) and, whether you like him or not, they have an innovative coach who has been quite successful building footbal powerhouses.
Ohio State needs to adjust its game to compete outside the Big 10.  They need to look at competing with the SEC and the Big 12.

That being said, I'm a big OSU fan and we beat Michigan!  It doesn't get any better!!
