My mother's brother had a friend named Ralph Starkey. They grew up together and went to high school together. He played 3 years of varsity football for West Virginia University and was drafted by the New York Giants as the 89th pick in the 8th round of the 1954 draft. I remember as a kid thinking, Wow, this guy played in the NFL!
His NFL career was cut short by injury, but he made his mark dealing with wayward teens in Pickaway County. He gave a ton back to his community. We can't even come close.
