Leon Redbone at Bethel Woods

"I extract what I consider the best material from different sources. But often the material I perform comes from a very strange location in history, which are minstrel shows." --- Leon Redbone
The concert on Friday, November 12 at Bethel Woods took place in the Event Gallery, an intimate venue that seats about 400 people, and featured Leon Redbone with Vince Giordano on aluminum string bass, tuba and baritone sax and Paul Asaro on piano. Leon sang and talked while strumming his guitar in between running jokes like "This is a sing-along" (when of course it isn't) and "Now what's this tune?" and "How does it go?" and "The next song's in B flat."

They played most of Redbone's more memorable songs: "Please Don't Talk About Me When I'm Gone," "Sheik of Araby," "Mr. Jelly Roll Baker," "It's a Lonely World When You're All Alone," "Oh, Susannah, Dust Off That Old Piano," "Goodbye Charlie Blues," "My Blue Heaven" and of course, "Shine On Harvest Moon."

Redbone is the consummate guitar player with a very unique baritone voice. It was quite an enjoyable experience -- and it didn't hurt having front row seats.

Autographed copy of "Christmas Island" CD. There is a great version of "Frosty the Snowman" done with Dr. John.
