Poorest Places in the US

There was a story in yesterday's NY Times concerning Kiryas Joel, a village in Orange County NY populated exclusive by the Satmar Hasidic. They have the distinction of having the highest incidence of poverty in the US. The median age is 8.

Interestingly, they're anti-Zionist.

The interesting part of the article was when they said that the second poorest place in the US is Athens, Ohio. I was going to move there about 15 years ago. Coupled with the drug problems that area is now confronting, I'm glad I didn't. My children were in the 12 - 15 year age group at that time.

Stay informed.
