Songwriter Richard Thompson to Offer Songwriter Session at SXSW Music
SXSW Music is pleased to announce a special addition to our conference program. Acclaimed artist Richard Thompson, named one of the "20 Greatest Guitarists" by Rolling Stone, will offer a Songwriter Session for SXSW attendees. With guitar in hand, Thompson will discuss the creative process with Scott Goldman of MusiCares, field questions from attendees, and perform a few songs as well. This session will take place on Friday, March 15.
Richard Thompson broke musical ground as guitarist for Fairport Convention, who defined folk-rock with their classic albums such as "Liege and Lief" and their stunning performances. Dozens of albums have followed, as his playing and performances draw attention worldwide. Among the many honors he's received are the MOJO Les Paul Award, the Americana Music Association's Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Order of the British Empire.
Thompson's new album, "Electric" on the New West label, brings his music forward to what he describes as "folk-funk." Recorded with noted artist and producer Buddy Miller, the new songs bear evidence of Thompson's wide range of styles and voices. In addition to this conference session, Thompson will also showcase at SXSW Music with his trio and special guests. Don't miss this unique chance to hear how Richard Thompson writes incredible songs.
