Driving through Hamburg, Pennsylvania

Normally when we're on Rt. 61 north of Reading, we bypass Hamburg and continue to Pottsville (home of the nation's oldest brewery--Yuengling) and points north or head east on I-78.  Today, we were looking for a late lunch and decided to look for a pub or pizza shop there.

We found an Italian restaurant and parked on the main street.  Across the street was The American House Hotel.  The building dates from 1806 and it became a licensed hotel in 1853 and included a tavern, eating house and oyster cellar.  There's a bar in the basement and restaurant on the ground level.  From the stickers on the windows, it appears they're doing renovations to the hotel section of the building.

New Year's Eve dinner looks enticing and is quite decently priced.  Too bad we won't be in the area.
