Katie and the Local Wildlife

There are some people who live up the road who put corn and other feed out for the deer all year long.  This creates a problem for them in the winter because they haven't learned how to properly forage.  Because of this, everytime they hear certain noises, they think someone is putting out food for them.

Katie went outside this morning to salt some icy spots in the driveway.  As she was spreading the salt, they came running, thinking it was food.  Hopefully, they'll make it through the winter.

As far as hunting in PA, there were over 500,000 deer taken by hunters in 2004.  Last years number was down to 350,000.  The numbers for 2008 haven't been released by the state, as far as I know.  There were 3,436 bears taken during the recent open season on them.
