Why I've Given Up On NASCAR

I'm a racing fan.  Have been since I was a teenager and listened to the Indy 500 on radio when I was 14.  Fell in love with Formula One watching occasional highlights on Wide World of Sports.  Lived in Europe for about 10 years and saw races in Germany, Belgium, England, France, and Monaco.  In North America, have been to F1 races in Indy and Montreal.  Been to NASCAR races at Daytona and Long Pond.

Formula One, Indy Racing, and NASCAR have become a variation of late stage IROC.  Everyone drives the same car and it's not really exciting anymore.  Actually, IROC was once exciting.  Races were won by Mark Donohue, Bobby Unser, AJ Foyt, Mario Andretti, Bobby Allison, Harry Gant, Al Unser, Jr., and Dale Earnhardt.  The photo below is the IROC car driven by Richard Petty in 1974--doesn't look much like a Grand National car.

I don't like night racing, except on Memorial Day--which used to be the greatest race day of the year.  Monaco in the morning, Indy in the afternoon, and Charlotte at night.  Now all NASCAR racing is geared to the left coast.  The 500 starting 2 hours before dark and being called after 350 miles--not a 500 mile race--finish it to an empty speedway if necessary--just finish it.

The second race of the year starting after the sun goes down on the east coast.  My alarm goes off at 3:40 am on Monday morning.

You've lost me.  Have fun night racing.
