Everts High School Athletes

See anyone you recognize?

This was the oldest known picture of any high school athletic team available at the time The growing up of a City School System: History of Circleville Schools 1810-1976 was written.  It was obtained from Miss Gretchen Moeller, high school librarian for many years.  Does anyone know of an older photo?

This was at a time when football was a really violent sport with a number of deaths annually.  In 1908, President Theodore Roosevelt (a fan of the game) convened a meeting at the White House condemning the way the game was being played and threatening to outlaw it unless it became safer.  Obviously, they heeded his words.

Reading from left to right:  Hedges, Redman, Brown, Grigsley, Hitt, Pontious, Hays, Hoffman, Lucas, McCrum, Mowery (Capt.), Schleich, Carmony, Fickardt, Curtain, Lowe, Henry

The above photo is identified as "Early Athletes of Everts High School."  I think it's the 1905 football team.  If anyone knows different, let me know.

I did some cursory searches for CHS sports records since 1972, but was unable to find anything.  Does anyone know if that record still holds?  If it does, that a 105 year-old record.  That's cool.
